The Watchers (2021–25) is a series of video paintings set in the Land of the Twins, a mystical realm inspired by Beninese folklore, Vodou spirituality, and The Disordered Cosmos—a journey into the unknown. At its heart is an exploration of duality, paradox, and the cosmic balance between divine forces and human vulnerability. This realm invites viewers to traverse a fragmented universe, bridging the physical and metaphysical while uncovering the profound interplay of seen and unseen forces.
The celestial figures at the center of the series embody harmony in contradiction, reflecting the mysteries of existence and the complexities of a disordered cosmos. Through vivid imagery and intricate symbolism, The Watchers examines themes of justice, balance, and transformation, offering a window into the connections between the sacred and the earthly. Expanding beyond its visual origins, the series sets the stage for graphic storytelling. Its rich narrative and symbolic depth provide fertile ground for exploring mythology, science, and the human condition. Whether as paintings, animation, or comics, The Watchers meditates on the interplay of opposites and the boundless possibilities within the unknown.
